Jordan and Becks have entered the christmas cracker sportive on 7th december and i'm feeling tempted. It's around 60 miles in the north lakes. Anyone else up for it?

"
The Christmas Cracker returns for 2008 on December 7th and once again Christmas puddings will be delivered in very large quantities to held replace carbohydrate stores. The event is approximately 60 miles and starts from Cartmell Fell village hall in South Lakes and initially heads South before turning North via Grizedale forest (route entirely on road) and stopping at Grasmere for refreshments. The return leg starts with a rather harsh climb up 'red bank', follows the East shore road along Coniston Lake and ends with a real sting in the tail, climbing via fell foot park to the finish.

Officially I'm doing it but possible conflict of social life means it's 50-50. It's a fantastic route, it's just got to be done.

I've entered this now. Like Viv, reserve the right to wimp out and stay in bed if it's rubbish weather.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as the Christmas Cracker is coming up soon (Dec 7th).

Just wondered - as there are lots of Wheelies doing it - if we can maybe do a car share?

Start times are between 8.30am and 10.00am so it's going to mean an early start from Manchester.

I can't offer a car I'm afraid, I'm car-less at the minute.

I can give you a lift or take lots of bikes and someone else take people in their car.

Just noticed this - I can drive too which, in combo with the van, gives space for 6 at a push I think? Without the van I'm limited to one extra + bike.

Great, thanks a lot Viv and Becks for offering to drive. I know Kiwi Anita also needs a lift - so with me, Anita, Steve, Gill, Viv and Becks that's 6 people and 6 bikes - is that possible? How many bikes can you fit in your van, Viv? Anyone else need a lift too?

I'm with you Viv, if it's pouring down or really icy I'll knock it on the head I think. P.S. Did you get out for a ride today? The fell race at Darwen was a goodun and what a fab day to be out in the hills. Perfect clear blue sky, frost everywhere and - blimey - sunshine!

Yep, that'll work. I suggest we all meet at our place in prestwich to load up the van. Ill think about timings later this week. Unless its icy ill drive up and if its horrible i can just sit in a cafe and watch instead. I 'suppose' we can give Anita a lift even though she's decided to ride for another team - boo.

(BTW It was good riding today - frost on the trees but no ice at all on the roads that i saw. The fell run looked good too, look forward to hearing about it.)

Yep, that works with me too - but I'm similarly reserving the right to bail out or sit in a cafe if the roads are really icy!

Viv, I feel thoroughly guilty hearing about your ride. I've done little more that mope on the sofa all weekend - some kind of post holiday comedown I think!

That sounds a plan then. Can someone work out what time we should meet - no good me deciding, you know i'm always late.

Becks - boo! I thought of ringing and dragging you out on a ride but thought you had something on. Just call it a rest week and get back to training - thats what i do. BTW you know H reads this every day

Consider me told! Not coping well with the guilty aftermath of not riding actually so going out when its grim might be the lesser of two evils! I would've had to go early both days though and it genuinely looked lethal when I briefly glanced out the window... excuses, excuses...!

Transport matrix looks set for Sunday then. Now all I have to do is avoid the lurgy my flat mate has.

Just checked on AA autoroute and expected 1hr 35 to get there.. So depending on time we want to start, maybe meet at viv`s at 7ish? Then straight onto motorway network from there..

Real shame to miss it but glad someone made the decision for us - apparently pretty sketchy up there still. There is a rumour they might try and reschedule, hopefully for early next year.
