Are Mick and Miles still interested in racing this one?

If so, I can offer a lift (possibly squeezing all 3 of us in my Clio) - give me a call: 07896 339326.

This is a good road race for anyone who's not raced much, as it's a flat(ish) 3 mile circuit, with wide roads, closed off to traffic, i.e. easy to sit in the bunch.

Saw you were 11th Ben, nice one! Sounded like a lot of people were planning to ride this so good result.

How did everyone else get on?

Cheers Viv - I'm both happy and gutted at the same time. I didn't expect much due to lack of racing/training, but I actually felt really strong, and found myself attacking a fair bit throughout (including some on and off with Rob Hayles !). I then had a clear sprint to the finish line, and was feeling really strong, but then cramped up really badly with about 100 mtrs to go, and had to watch loads of riders come round me as I freewheeled over the line...

I'm hoping someone took a photo today of the red, white and blue train (i.e. my jersey followed by Rob Hayles' Champs jersey !). We looked good together, despite my pulse being at 180 and his at 130 ! Maybe that's why my left leg went numb !

I'm making an appointment with my GP, as this cramp problem is getting beyond a joke now. I actually think it may be some kind of artery restriction, as I always get pain in the same place, regardless of how much isotonic drink I have, or how much I stretch. It usually only happens at high intensity, though did play up a bit after 45 miles in the Dave Lloyd ride. In fact, it always seems to happen at the same distance - it even happened at 40 miles in the Tour of the Dales TT !

Anyway, that's enough boring talk about my crappy legs - Regarding other results, no-one else rode today from the Wheelers:

Miles didn't fancy a go, but I think he should have tried, he probably could have finished in the bunch. Mick replied to me last night from Majorca !! Lucky sod, no-one should be allowed 2 visits to Majorca within 3 months ! At least we can say we had similar weather to him today !

Pat Hanfling (2nd claim) did really well, and was involved in lots of breakaway chasing. He's still buzzing from a recent RR win, but says he didn't have any sprint left today after 50 miles. He should get 2nd cat this year though. And then he has to join us 1st claim ! He's hoping to get a lift with me up to the Colne GP this Wednesday. Otherwise, I'm leaving from the city centre at 17:00 if anyone else is interested.

Blimey Ben, mixing it with Rob Hayles can't be bad. You must have been inspired watching the tour - just think what you could do with some structured training. How annoying about the cramp, no idea what causes that but sounds like something you might be able to get sorted so worth asking. Good to hear Pat going so well even if he is racing for someone else.

Not many results lately, I wonder what everyone else is up to? Mid season lull? Holidays?

Was considering trying Oulton park tonight but committee meeting beckons...

No Martin - I'm not ready for retirement yet !

I was insprired by Cav's 2nd win, which I watched while having my porridge yesterday morning ! But when I say mixing it, that also means having Rob ride me off his wheel, which puts things in perspective !

Yes, some structure would be lovely. If anyone can recommend a good sports physio, or someone who is a specialist in leg/tendon problems, please let me know.

I think a fair few people must be on holiday, which is why yesterday's 2 races got combined into one 80 person bunch !

Committee meeting - that reminds me, I won't be able to make it tonight - please can someone give my apologies...

I'll next see the committee at the September meeting - which will be after our road race. I've not got much to report on for tonight, it's all going to plan for the RR on August 31st.

Maybe should have ridden it as like the sound of saying that I was in the same race as the National Champion! Went for a nice long ride (in the sun!) which will better training in the long run I think than getting left behind in another race.

Might give Oulton Park a miss tonight unfortuantely but thinking about Darley Moor on Sunday.

Ben, was just digging through some old results and things trying to plan for this year and found this thread.
I remember this day all too well for many reasons. I got 4th, went home, went to the pub, the rest well....
I was not riding for the wheelers then but it was one stupidly fast race. Hayles debuting his national champs jersey for the first time and doing half lap intervals at something daft like 33mph.

Great Photo of Pat Hanfling with said National champ on his wheel.
