Dear all

In a moment of what some of you may call madness, I have recently signed up to Aedas Cycle to Cannes 2012, a 1500km cycling challenge, open to people connected with the UK property sector. It starts at the beginning of March in London and ends in Cannes on 6th March at MIPIM. Around 100 riders take part, and it is fully supported, and on closed roads courtesy of a rolling roadblock from the Gendarmes!

This is a challenge on two levels - a physical endurance challenge of six days back to back riding (with some monster stages over 300k!), but also a fundraising challenge, as each rider is asked to raise a minimum of £3000.

The money raised will support a number of charities and projects. The main beneficiary is Coram, the UK's first children's charity. Founded in 1739, Coram works with some of the most vulnerable children in our communities - for example through Coram Adoption children are found a safe, loving and permanent new home, and a family who can offer them all the support they need to improve their lives. Coram provide ongoing care to new families to ensure they have all the help they need to stay together, and thrive.

Other charities to benefit will be Article 25, a charity committed to working with partner NGO's to build homes and shelter after disaster or in places of poverty and need; the Multiple System Atrophy Trust providing information and assistance to those living with MSA and their carers; Tom's trust, assisting disadvantages children to achieve their potential by gaining access to appropriate educational facilities and opportunities, and finally the Emthonjeni Trust, giving support to those living with HIV and AIDS in the Eastern Cape in South Africa.

I am writing this post this to ask you for your support in this challenge and to help reach my fundraising target of £3000.

I have set up an online giving page at www.bmycharity.com/michaelbuchanan where you can sponsor me. Please do also tick the gift aid box as every penny counts.

The sheer scale of Cycle2Cannes puts my previous exploits at Amstel Gold, the Etape and La Marmotte well and truly in the shade - and is made significantly more difficult by being so early in the season with little help on the training front from our Manchester climate! It does give me a chance however to do what I suspect all of us would like to do - which is in essence be a professional cyclist for six days (and has an added benefit of being cracking training for the coming season)!

I am delighted to be fortunate enough that I am able to use my passion for cycling to benefit some very worthwhile causes, and I do hope that you are able to support me.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Michael
