I've posted a ride to the peak district this sunday(5th Feb), but if the forecast is right there could be a good dumping of snow by then.

How bad does it have to get before comments change from 'chapeau!' to 'what are you doing up there you fool?'

I'll see how things go over the next couple of days, then update this thread and the rides list

Snow, then a hard frost and then fog... sorry, puts me right off, and I was looking forward to it. I was out Wednesday in the sunshine which made it bearable - still ice-floes on New Mills Lane though.

I think it changes at the point someone falls off! If you take it easy down the hills you're going to stay warmer and you're less likely to fall off.

Last weekend there was snow on the tops, but the roads were clear in and out of Holmfirth, it was warm enough if you kept moving, so no mechanicals and it would be fine. You need to ask one of the Stalybridge-based Wheelers to pop up onto the tops to see what's what, or stick to roads you know have been gritted.

Not a problem for me. I'll be there sunday whatever the weather.
Don't let me down! ;-)

Will hopefully be there - merging my run with this one - no point in two in the same direction!

If it snows on sat and temps are as cold as predicted I won't be doing anything hilly, besides the only safe roads would be main roads, then again the Cat might be closed.

Fog and poor visibility are forecast for tomorrow, which worries me more than cold and wet and windy.

Weather forecast for Manchester

All of which is to say I won't be out tomorrow - turbo intervals instead.

I went over saddleworth this morning and windchill was brutal. From Ashton at the moment there has been almost 2 inches of snow in last 2 hours.
Might be off road over dovestones tommorow.

Around Macc & the Cat is even colder than Saddleworth by a few degrees.

there's enough ice on the roads now, with little prospect of it melting, to convince me to cancel this ride.
Will post it up for another week

rothers might still be taking the paining ride out though - updates here:

Good call Nev, just been up Lyme Park off-road and it's already drifting up there with a brutal wind. Glad I wasn't on my road bike, slippy enough on the mtb

Good call boys. I was driving in it all day and it was pretty bad. Took the car to work today. Mighty glad I did as well.
