Planning a trip to Mallorca in April with family and keen to do some cycling when there.
I don't think I'm going to be able to take my bike so looking at hiring one when out there. Does anyone have any recommendations? We'll be staying in the SW of the island around Camp de Mar/Port d'Andratx
Ta!

Andy, I am going to be on the Island in April also, going on a training camp for a week with Stuart Hall Cycling. I am hiring a bike from some shop/company called pollensacycling.com. I think they will deliver the bike to your hotel as well. Another one to look into is procyclehire.com. Hope this can be of some use to you.

Pat, how did you find those ones. They look like they're on the opposite side of the island to where we are staying. Might be easier if I can find one a bit closer to our hotel.

Andy, fly out on the 9th of April (Easter Monday), stay at the Sea Club in Alcudia. My girlfriend will go mental! She's already said, "I bet all your cycling mates are already booked in and you just haven't told me."! I think the north side is best for biking isn't it? You'll need to be in the hills with the Fred coming up. Fancy a lap of the island with me, it's 192 miles?? :-)

I'm there from 24th April to 1st May. Staying in the South West corner - accomodation already booked by the parents-in-law so not at my discretion unfortunately... From the map it looks like we're just as close to the hills as you are, and yes, happy to join you for a lap if you're still out there when I am.

Cool, cool, yeah I know where you are, you'll be in the hills no probs. I found those bike hire places and loads of routes just by googling. I'm flying my bike out though. I'm only there for 7 nights, so I'll be back before you leave. You'll be able to steal all my rides from Strava.

Who are you flying with and who are you hiring your bike box from (assuming you are doing that?)

The holiday was booked as a package through Jet2 holidays, so I presume we fly with Jet2. We both have bike bags and I have some HUGE pieces of foam, so I'm going to cut a block of foam to fill each bag, then carve it out so that the bike can be inserted into the foam, for maximum protection. I haven't got the bikes booked on them fligh yet as I have to go through Jet2 Holidays to get a flight reference first, should have it all sorted in the next few days.

Andy - got a bike bag for sale complete with pipe lagging if you want... served me well for years.
Bags are better than boxes - pad em out with cardboard on the outer and pipe lagging on the tubes. Take the pedals bars and rear mech hanger off and defalte your tyres.
The bikes for hire over there are ok but for the cost of a bag and a space on the plane i find its easier to take my own.

I could probably sort you out with a block of foam to fill a bag with too Andy if you wanted one.
Been told it's £148 to add my bikes, £30 each way per bike, plus £28 for the cross-island transfer. I didn't price up hire, but I would expect it to still be cheaper than hiring two bikes and you get to ride your own bike.
I reckon remove the stem and drop the forks out too as the fork drop outs would be the point most exposed to rough treatment.

Can get a Bike Box Alan from Altrincham Bike Shak for £35 for the week, plus it's only £40 carriage both ways with Monarch so I think I'll do that...

Also got a bike bag I've used on 2 occasions. You're welcome to borrow it. Comes with enough lagging and zipties to wrap your bike well.
