The CTT events listing is now live and contains all the information you need to enter each event, no more excuses about not having a handbook.

Time for all you Winter Warriors to step up and show us what you've got, the clock doesn't lie

We'll see, it'd be nice.

Is there a key to the cryptic annotations on that list somewhere?

I'm intrigued by the medium-gear event on 10/3. Anyone know what the official way of measuring this is? There is a `gear table' on the site but it doesn't seem to correspond to either of the ways I tried of calculating it! - Presumeably it's done by `roll out' in any case, but does anyone know what distance would correspond to 72"?

Jesus wept.

Are you a cyclist or somebody who happens to ride a bike?

Jude:
it's based on if you were riding an 'ordinary' (also known as Penny Farthing') bike - the diameter of the single big wheel would be 72", so for one turn of the pedals you would go 226" or 5.75 metres.

Haha! Good guess!

Thanks snowmole - I realise now the simplicity of the answer - 72" times pi!

Thanks Rothers, your input is always cheering and enlightening

I'll take that with the required pich of salt from one who does not know how far his own machine travels forward in one pedal revolution.

That race isn't a fixed gear only is it?

My commuter is an Allez 2011 frame set up as a single speed 44/16 with tensioner.

Sheldon says that's 72.3 gear inches, could I get away with it or would I have to slap a 17t sprocket on the back?

Woulnd't mind giving it a shot. 10 miles of spinny pain!

No, the Middle Gear 72" event runs alongside the normal 10mile TT.

Andy Bramhall is already entered in the TT

Ah OK, didn't see the option of the 'normal' time trial. That sounds better.

It's all a bit confusing for a newbie!

I think I'll enter, assuming there's still places available.

You've still got plenty of time to get your entry in. The closing date for TT entries is normally 2 weeks before the event

Thanks Si!

One more thing, on the application form it talks about a CTT levy which needs to be included in the payment.

I'm not sure if the £7 cost shown on the CTT website includes this or not. It's not particularly clear what the levy would be if not included

BTW theres a bit of an intro to timetrialling on our website (same with all the disciplines) but if there's anything else you think would be useful to know as a beginner just tell me and i'll add it.
