Hello wheelers. The ride went well today .We headed up to poynton, pott shrigley ,bollington ,rainow. etc .Overall the roads were not too bad and maybe i should have lead a cheshire flat ride as carl a new member hit an icy patch and came off .Thankfully he was going slow therefore no harm done ,the bike was ok too apart from a little problem with the saddle which can be fixed easy enough.I suppose it could have happened anywhere and we didnt climb too high up ,(He came off on a flat stretch)
We headed out about 9.30am and the sun was melting the ice .So for all you going out tomorrow just keep your eye on the road and avoid the icy patches .Sure you will be ok.The weather was perfect and the scenery fantastic.Shame i cant join you on the intermediate ride tomorrow but think i will be nursing a hangover. Thanks everyone for turning up.
Its sometimes hard to judge whether its safe to go out when mildly icy but glad i didnt cancel the ride ,also determining the route can be difficult ,even cheshire has a few hills.

Sorry I didn't make it out - I only noticed the ride this morning as I've not been on the website very much recently. I hope you had a good xmas and New Year. I'm sure I will see you out and about on your bike soon enough.

Hi Jayne - The ride sounded good. I would like to have come, but am unfortunately work committed for lots of Saturdays at the moment. Usual issue of time or money, and at the moment, the latter wins!
Didn't make the social rides discussion, owing to a stinking 'orrible cold - which I nobly didn't want to spread amongst the Wheelers. There's nothing worse than 'friendly' donations of winter viruses! - Besides, I fell asleep after tea, anyway!
I've been doing a lot of driving over the peak tops early in the mornings - and the ice is patchy. I tend to crawl along at 30-40 mph. Prefer to arrive intact. Feel the same about cycling on ice. It's not the falling off, it's the longterm damage from it which bothers me. Can't do events when broken!
Found some really good routes for hills and views, for the better weather, tho' - although they will be long rides - will put one up, eventually, as a ride.Hoping to try to get to women's meet next week. See you later!

The ride was good cathy and i have got some great routes now uploaded onto my garmin edge so plenty more opportunities in the future.Looks like there will be lots of rides happening for all abilities which is great.I am too late to enter the fred whitton but will be doing the cheshire cat and polka dot challenge .Definately low calorie intake for me now ,although very difficult when you are a chocoholic,,need to lose 3kg to make those hills less painful. The meeting went really well with a good turn out .See you hopefully next week for the womens meeting.I think while the weather is minus i will be sticking to just main roads rather than venturing into the hills or country lanes.
