The 49 Club is a monthly draw to help raise funds for the club by giving you a chance to win a monthly cash prize of £25. The winning number is the bonus ball of the National Lottery (Lotto) drawn on the last Saturday of the month. There are 49 numbers; the stake is £1 per number per month.
A short while before he passed away Gordon Buchanan who organized this scheme updated me saying: “It is now over half way through the current scheme’s year, but only four number holders; Charlotte Cordingley, Brian Evans, Sue Harney and Martin Harney have received a monthly prize. The other three £25 monthly prizes would have all gone to the holder of ONE PARTICULAR NUMBER - IF IT HAD BEEN ALLOCATED.”
Under the rules of the scheme where a number is drawn which has not been allocated, half of the prize money rolls-over to the next month with the other half going into club funds.
I only held two numbers, but if I had bought more - for the paltry sum of just £1 per month over the scheme’s annual period, I might now have been £63 better off.
There are four numbers which have still to be purchased and allocated, each of which can now be had for the reduced sum of £5 to last until the end of the current scheme on the last Saturday of March. I have temporarily taken over running the scheme, so contact me with your money (I'll be at the AGM on Monday - form an orderly queue please) and I’ll allocate you a number.
Don’t forget; members and their families can purchase more than one number; in December the prize is £50, so for a measly fiver, until the end of this current scheme you could win up to £125.
STOP PRESS: That mystery number was drawn again in November. If it had been allocated, one lucky punter would have been £88 better off.
