I have started a new thread so that hopefully this will be picked up by everyone.
Apologies for the delay in posting this, but I found it very difficult to screw up the courage to ring Lynda to ask about these arrangements, however we have resolved the following:
1. Lynda is very happy for Wheelers' to wear club colours at the funeral, she thinks Gordon would have also loved the idea.
2. She is also happy to have an escort of riders preceding the hearse, BUT ONLY from their home to the Methodist Church, which is a distance of only a few hundred yards along the main road. However she DOES NOT want this to happen from the church to the crematorium.
Those members who want to form a cycle escort, please post on this thread then arrange something between yourselves. I would suggest that perhaps they meet at the church at about 10.25 then go to Windsor Hall which as mentioned is only a very short distance.
I hope the club can put on a good turnout for one of our stalwarts.
The details once again are:
Monday 28th November at United Methodist Church, (corner of Heaton Moor Road and Stanley Road, Heaton Moor, Stockport at 10.45 am.
There will be a private committal service at Stockport Crematorium at 12.00 noon.
All are invited afterwards to the Alma Lodge Hotel, 149 Buxton Road, Stockport, SK2 6EL. This is on the Left hand side of the main A6 road as you head out of Stockport towards Buxton.
I’m unsure of the timing of this as it depends on the length of the committal service. Someone else has informed me that as a funeral service will already have been held, the committal will only last a couple of minutes, however it might last as long as 25-30 minutes. It is only a short step from the crematorium to the Alma Lodge so that journey will not take long. Those travelling fom the church will pass the crematorium on their way ro the Alma Lodge.
I’m sorry if I seem to be taking charge here but I really would like to see all those Wheelers’ who are planning to attend, to be there when Lynda, Ian and the other family members arrive, to show our support.
I have spoken to the Alma Lodge who tell me there is a secure area for bikes in the courtyard adjacent to the room used by the funeral group.

Apologies: I did not mention flowers before, but they will be welcomed. The undertaker would normally accept these, but need to be there by 9.30am which is difficult for anyone other than someone who lives locally. They can be brought to the church or a donation can be made to the British Heart Foundation, the undertakers will accept these also.
Please bear in mind there will also be lots of Gordon’s fellow Rotary Club members attending, as he was held in just as high regard by the Rotarians as he was by his fellow Wheelers, consequently there may not be enough room in the hearse for all wreaths.
Also, as there may be a substantial number of people attending and that car parking in the area around the church might be difficult, please allow for this when arriving.

We will definitely be there but it may be simpler just to meet there as will be coming from work and need to go back there afterwards. If there are enough to ride from the house we could meet at the church at 1015 but I have a feeling that most attending no longer ride much so might be easier just to go as normal.

If anyone else is going and wants to meet let us know tonight.

Only had the pleasure of meeting Gordon on a handful of occasions but sufficient to understand his passion and commitment for all things cycling and all things wheelers.
I will be there to pay mt respects tomorrow, how many are planning on riding the short distance to the church?

Dave S - not sure how many will be there (possibly you, me, Viv and one other) . I've spoken with Ken and agreed to meet everyone at the Church for 10:25 and then ride down together. Will have my mobile (07810 098932) with me tomorrow...

I'll also take part in the ride. I'll see you guys at the church around 10:15.

Hopefully it'll stay bright and sunny tomorrow - the Wheelers club colours will look nice.

What a lovely service at the church - and there wasn't a seat spare.

It was very sad, but full of nice memories of Gordon.

The Passo del Brattello (the photo on the service booklet) is near Pontremoli in Tuscany.

Yes - a wonderful fitting goodbye to the great man! It is what he would have wanted and the club did him proud! I know it's something for the AGM next week - but it is essential that the club acknowledges all that Gordon did for Manchester Wheelers in the way of a new trophy! see you all there! x
