From the Tameside Facebook Page;

I'm pleased to report that the popular Women's Road Race training sessions will be taking place again in early 2012 at the Tameside Circuit.

Starting on Monday 20th February and running for 5 weeks we will be covering bunch riding skills, race tactics and developing racing experience ready for the start of the 2012 season. The sessions will run from 6.30pm - 8.30pm and the cost is £5.00 per session.

Thanks for the heads up Ed. After reading your message I emailed Jenny Gretton at British Cycling who mentioned that there will be an article on the BC website next month. I will post a link in the forum once the article is published. Watch this space!

For those of you who may not be aware of what is at Tameside, check out this website:

http://www.tamesidecyclingdevelopment.co.uk/

The tarmac loop is floodlit and car-free (and pot-hole free!). Its an excellent way to develop riding skills and prepare for racing. Its not far from Ashton-under-Lyme train station or, if driving, there is plenty of car parking right next to the circuit.

After the 5 weeks training, they put on monthly women's only races up until Sept time so you can put into practice what you have learnt. I only raced there once last year but loved it (even though I was lapped and came last - hoping to improve on that next season!)

It's also easily rideable from manchester. Along the Fallowfield loop is a nice warmup for the evening.

Up-date for Tameside training from British Cycling's Jenny Gretton....

Riders are welcome to attend on touring bikes, however, due to the nature of the session being based around developing bunch riding and racing experience, it may be more beneficial (and enjoyable) for riders to take part in the sessions on road bikes.

There is no need to book – riders can just turn up on the night and take part in the session. We aim to start at 6.30pm prompt, so ideally riders should aim to be there for 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start.

Finally, I am organising three Women’s races at the Tameside Circuit on March 11th, 18th and 25th. The full details are now available to view on the BC website and on-line entries will open on January 1st. Hopefully these events will be of interest to your members too.

Hi Guys,

I've been "off-line" for a while due to Uni stuff and work placements.....sorry about that!

Here's a link to another BC article regarding the Tameside Women's training:

The womens sessions at Ashton start on Monday 6.30-8.30. It clashes with the Wheelers core class which is a real shame but some of the other women were planning to go along so really recommend giving it a go...

Hi Ladies,

Were any of you there on Monday? I went and thoroughly enjoyed it. Just curious if there were any other wheelers there as I may not recognise you and it was definitely too wet to be sporting jerseys!

I can highly recommend the session- a good bunch of friendly other female riders there to meet as well as the cycling.

Went last night - very wet but brilliant fun - I loved it! Were there any other wheelers there this time? Didn't really get chance to chat to people to find out.
Should be there next week too....

Sounds like ruth has been going to lots of these womens sessions - anyone else? I should really get my @rse in gear and get down there myself.
