How did it go? Is it a straightforward job to open up the BB and put back on?

I have an FSA BB in need of replacement bearings and I need to decide whether to attempt myself or take to the shop. I haven't worked on that part of a bike for about 20 years, and fear my childhood mechanic skills of hitting cotter pins out with hammer and screwdriver might not be appreciated by the surrounding carbon...

Chris, If the FSA BB is a 'modern' external cup type, then it's a doddle. You just unscrew the old cups, bung in some grease and screw in the new cups. While you're at it though it's a good opportunity to clean inside the BB shell and obviously clean the cranks.

Probably worth mentioning that in order to do the above BB removal you need to remove the chainset/cranks, but this should be a case of two allen bolts on the left crank, slide the left crank off the spindle and then pull the spindle all the way through and out from the chainring side... easy peasy :-)

(Disclaimer - I'm assuming here that FSA is the same as Shimano. If not then please disregard all of the above!)

RaceFace do a really nice tool that will let your replace the bearings rather than the entire bottom bracket by the way. It's a proper man tool. I don't have one though.

Incidentally, I don't recommend cleaning your cranks in the dishwasher, unless they are labelled dishwasher proof, they come out looking about 50 years old!

Hmmm, is it really worth it when a whole new sealed 105 BB is less than £15?

Well obviously your method is bad for the environment and mine is worth massive man-points, so it's clearly 'worth' it!
