Some of the crossers heard Si C mention this on Wednesday, think he's doing it and I'm planning to as well so long as I get back from hols the previous evening OK. The 3 Towers Ride is run by Horwich CC but we know them well through the cross scene and anyone is welcome on this ride. It's a 5-6 hour mixed on/off road ride across the Lancs moors starting at 10.00 from Rivington Lower Barn, suitable for both MTB's and cross bikes (best with 35mm tyres), ideal training for the 3 Peaks two weeks later.

This from Dave Headon from Horwich CC:

- takes in Winter Hill twice, Peel Tower Ramsbottom,
-Is virtually all ride able, but you can run some sections if you want to train for the 3 Peaks.
-some great scenery
-varied terrain, tracks, grass, some tarmac, rocky, hilly, good descents, cobbles, and wild fresh air, and the odd peat bog to tip toe over.
-it will be a group ride, nobody is left behind
-a sturdy tyre (35mm) is a good idea, you would get round on a Mich Mud but puncture risk on rocks.
-mountain bikes are welcome
-you need a helmet
-you need some endurance to complete the ride, but a fit junior rider would be fine,
-bring food and drink because we don't pass any shops that I can remember.

The ride will be led by 3 Peaks warrior ERIC TAYLOR of Horwich CC who has completed the 3 Peaks 25 times.

thinking about coming out on this ride, but it would literally be my first outing on a cross bike. im pretty fit so not worried about getting dropped, but i am worried about the skill involved in jumping on and off my bike quick etc... is this a good place to start, or should i steer clear?

If its cool and doable, Si, do you want to share a lift? i dont mind driving up there...

Dont reckon youll need to jump on and off as its a ride rather than a race, you'll be fine. Id love to do it but will never keep up, im notoriously slow off road. Have fun kids.
