It's that time of year when I realise that my lights are rubbish. I know there's probably a thread somewhere but I can't find it, so any recommendations for a decent set of lights that maybe can cater for normal road bike use but also offroad 'I need to make sure I don't cycle into the Mersey' lights

I have one of these (cost me £130 when i bought it!)

http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/LIABP7/airbike-p7-everlight-sl

last for ages on flashing mode when commuting, bright enough for me to do night laps at Mountain Mayhem with when I had it on the brightest beam setting.

If you want a Rothers "see and be seen light" it does both jobs, bright enough to ride your roadbike on unlit roads

If you try the Dealextreme website you should find they do the same equivalent for about £50 shipped.

Personally I reckon for being seen if you commute in town is having additional blinking front and rear LEDs fixed on your lid, they are eye level for kamikaze pedestrians coming off the pavement who wont always see the lights on your bars due to traffic etc (also means if your front or rear light goes you have a backup).

The big tescos do (or used to last time I looked) cheap single LEDs for about £4 you can easily fix to lids with the velcro elastic straps they come with. They also do cheap packs of Scotchlite reflective stickers which are handy for sticking on your frame/mudguards for side on visibility.
