An early reminder for everyone about the date for the Wheelers Cross Race and the first time for me to ask you please to step up if you can help with course set-up and marshalling for the day. The race is at Bogart Hole Clough, Blackley, Manchester.

This year I really want as many Wheelers riding as possible so it can be a great day out for the club - loads racing and a big bunch marshalling. There's a lot of organisation and on-the-day jobs in a cross race and I'm starting early this year!

So at this stage if you can marshall on the day please PM me or post here to let me know numbers. Your help is really appreciated. I will be drawing up a more specific jobs list over the next month or so and I'll let you know in good time what you're in for.

Thanks people.

Would love to assist with lap counting after all my practice thus far but alas I will be mainly in bed that day sporting a hefty hangover from my Brothers wedding day!

Just a reminder of this date. If you're on a ride can you make sure you mention it to anyone that's out, especially for anyone thats not one of the regular few that always helps out.
Would be great to see some new faces getting involved so some of the regulars can ride it. Always a top day - hard work but definitely worth it.

Count me in. Happy to assist with coarse set-up and marshalling if you need me. Can also rerun my marshal Ute-taxi service.

If you get loads of marshals I might duck out so as to be free to roam and take pictures.

Many thanks to those posting on here and others who have PM'ed me or said that they can help - much appreciated.

I still need about a dozen more volunteers so please if you haven't been in touch, post on here, or PM me.

Thanks.

Can anyone else help? The club is getting bigger which is great but we really need more members to put a few hours in here and there to help run it rather than it being the same people volunteering all the time.

We need help setting up the course and marshalling the race. It'll be a great day - please let Mick know if you can come. Great chance to see what cross racing is all about too.

Would love to race this sunday as I've not done a cross race for years, however, I can see that volunteers to marshall are in greater need. Can you give me some idea of the timescales involved as I can't give up all sunday to cycling (I've got mondays off for that )
Is it possible to race and to marshall?

URGENT REQUEST

I may now have a problem with First Aid cover due to illness. Does anyone have a First Aid certificate who could be our cover for the day?

Please PM me if you can help or if you know someone who can - the only requirement is to be present for all the races.

Thanks.

BTW - I'll post up later this evening full running order for the day for all those who have offered to set-up the course and marshall.

See below Chris, glad you're joining the Wheelers Cross Team! At this rate we'll have more racers than other clubs, as we did last weekend!

Helen, be good if you can come along - sure there's something to do and it's a good social gathering anyway - they'll be >30 Wheelers racing/spectating/marshalling.

Guys,

Details about the cross race for racers, spectators, course set-up and marshalls.

HQ
Bogart Hole Clough Visitors Centre
Charlestown Road

Course set-up
Can everyone helping with course set-up be at the Visitors Centre Car park at 8am sharp? This should be everyone who has said they can help and marshall. It will be quicker and easier with many hands. Includes pits, gazebo at start/finish area.

Signing-on
Opens at 10.00 with Carole Leigh

Marshalls
Required in position for the start of all races 10 mins before the start. Marshalls meeting at the Visitors Centre at 10.30.
Essentially your role will be a) to politely warn any pedestrians, especially those with dogs and/or small children that a race is on and where riders may be at speed, requesting that they avoid these areas, b) direct the riders on the first lap, c) try and keep the course marking in good repair so it shows race route and doesn't get tangled up with the riders, d) report any First Aid requirement to me or Michelle - I'll have both mobiles to give out, e) give a shout on to the riders and especially the Wheelers!!
I'll bring some maps so I can show you where to marshall and please wear a tabard.

Races
Youth - main course - 30 mins - 11.15
Under 12's - small course - 15 mins - 12.00

Refreshments
Our burger van broke down at the weekend and I'm currently trying to source another. However, I'd advise that you bring your own food and drink just in case. If I sort a van out please at least buy a brew from him!

Weather
Not bad forecast - coolish but dry. Bring plenty of warm clothes and a good waterproof in case. It has known to be damp in past years...

BIG thanks in advance to everyone helping out and let's have a great day!
