Attention all crossers! First NWest cross race in six weekends! So time to jump on our cross bikes and get some training in.

We're going to run a series of cross training sessions over most of the next 5/6 weeks. First one up is next Wednesday (18th) evening, meeting at Ken Fosters on Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton at 6.30.

Emphasis on technique rather than speed for this one. This session will be getting used to our cross bikes after 7 months off, varied terrain, cornering, anticipating gear changes, smooth riding on single track, ups n downs, steady paced, all welcome.

Hopefully see some of you then.

Just to let you know I've put the NWest Cross League Races on the Events list. It's as accurate as it can be at the moment via BC.

As usual i was late and apparently you had just left. Had great fun riding round chorlton water park and the trans penine trail trying to find you though. And a comedy drenching on the way home. Genuinely enjoyable. Hope you had a good night.

Good session tonight and joined by Ray Pugh from Liverpool Mercury who shared some good tips on cross exercises - so we did warm-up on our short circuit, stretch, mounting/dismounting from each side, shuttle sprints in pairs round a U shape, cross madison for 10 mins, start practice, bit of single track and a run-up. Good mix of skills and efforts suitable for everyone - you would have managed on slicks Viv but may have had to take the corners a little less agressively!

We'll do another next Wednesday and hope to see more of you next week.

Many thanks for last night. I must say your description of "cross madison" sounds better than "riding round the park holding hands"!

See you next week

On for tonight - 6.30 at Ken Fosters in Chorlton. Blazing sunshine and varied training guaranteed! Fine for anyone on an MTB by the way.

Chris, planning to run them in September providing there's enough interest. BTW, what bike are you getting?

thanks for the training tonight Mick. Felt like i was starting to get the hang of jumping back on the bike while running, a few more weeks of practise may do the trick.

Top evening playing out with you guys. Got the hang of getting on and off thanks to tips from Mick and Si (though i wouldnt call it a jump just yet). The stuff riding round and between trees was a big help. Its never going to be my strong point but was really good fun.

Theres a few photos here if youre wondering what its all about : http://www.flickr.com/search/groups/?q=chorlton&w=383373%40N20&m=pool

Good fun last night, thanks Mick.

Not enjoying the bruised ribs this morning though, after my tangle with (big) Mike C in the sprints

I'll be there tonight, but don't wait for me as I'll be riding down the Mersey and will go direct (Hopefully I'll be able to find it!)

Was really looking forward to this after last week but had the most childish accident ever yesterday tripping while running along the pavement so now cant brake with my left hand or put any pressure on my left knee. Pants.

Have fun. For anyone that hasn't been to one of these sessions yet and has a cross or mountain bike, try it - they're such good fun.
