It's quite scary that there are still people in high places in the US with such views. It sounds like some sort of cold-war paranoia !

Strange that it would come from Colorado, as it's a top biking state, although I'm talking about the Rockies - perhaps Denver is a bit backward still.

Think its the candidate who's backwards. Agree there's some craking riding in Colorado, the trails around Grand Junction are well worth a visit, as well as the ski resorts around Keystone and Breckenridge. And of course Boulder is a bit of a mecca for both roadies and mtbers alike (with plenty of bike shops there to fill yer boots in and cafes with lots of cake )

Go at the end of the ski season and you can ski the higher north facing slopes at Keystone/Arapahoe basin in the morning and then mtb on the lower slopes in the afternoon, ahhh them were the days, I've gone all misty eyed
