We don't run a Sportive event. The main events that we do run are part of the official British racing calendar (CTT, BCF etc..) so they don't need advertising - just as well really, it's hard enough running them !
The magazines you mention are the most popular with road riders, so should be a good way to publicise. Cycling Weekly publish a Sportive Calendar each year via their website : http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/439794/2010-cyclo-sportive-calendar.html so you should make sure your event gets included there. I don't believe there is an 'official' calendar as there is no governing body for Sportives. You could also try advertising on Bikeradar.com
The Sportive season is getting a little crowded now, however, so you may struggle to get as much interest as you're hoping for, especially if it's a new event. But good luck - it's certainly for a very worthy cause.
