We've been discussing putting a team or two into Sleepless in the Saddle and so far Jerry, Scott, Jay, Ross, Mike and I have confirmed. We'd like to put a 4 man Vet team in and another male (4) or mixed (5) team in so we need two or three more to make the full teams.
So both men and women welcome! Anyone else up for it?

What's the latest on entries fo this year's SITS ?
The last time I looked into it was the idea of riding as a pair : http://www.manchesterwheelers.co.uk/Forum/topic1816-sleepless-in-the-saddle-2010.aspx
I entered solo at that point, but I'm now worried I won't be in shape for such an effort, and if there's a team place, I might be able to transfer my entry across to that.
But overall, is it just Jay/JC as a pair, and me solo ?

Cheers Viv - I meant to say, I'd not seen this topic when Mick raised it a month ago - otherwise I would have given Mick/Jerry a call back then.
But I won't mind doing a solo if there's going to be loads of other Wheelers about - it'll be more of a laugh back at the campsite, and lots of team-mates to give me a push as they overtake me !

Just back from a fantastic weekend at sleepless - great camaraderie, good fun and top effort by both Wheelers teams and also to Ben Green riding solo. Everyone's probably too tired to say much for now but everyone put in maximum effort to the very end and stayed in high spirits throughout.
The team of Mick, Scott, Jerry and Si B looked to be winning the vets category until a last minute change of category by derby Mercury at which point it was too late to chase but were an impressive 2nd and 6th amateur team overall i think. The other team of Mike C, Jay, Sunil (friend from the TdA) and Ross (friend of Micks) also rode really well to finish within the top 30 overall with really consistent lap times. Ben somehow kept going for 24 hours which was great especially given the limited training time he has available. I forget all the details and lap times etc for now but all in all top weekend.
Some photos here. Should be some proper team shots added this week.

Thanks for the write-up Viv.
It was great to see everyone on the finish line - a welcome site indeed ! I knew then it was finally over.
Nice of big Pat to give us a mention at the end. I think we deserved it - amongst all the other racing we do, we still manage to fit in some proper MTB racing too !
The results are up now: http://www.provelosupportuk.co.uk/
Looks like the Vets did 36 laps, the 'Youngsters' did 30 laps and I did 23 laps.
I was too tired to get to the Lass on Monday - it would have been fun to catch up properly with everyone. That's one problem with doing solo - you don't get to see anyone much.
Thanks for the encouraging shouts from the pits and from riders passing me.
I'm just so glad it stayed dry. In fact, I'd say the weather was perfect, although the ground was a bit hard. I've still not got the feeling back in all my fingers yet, but I am back on a bike now, although it's Mathilde's MTB with a big comfy sprung saddle - all I can sit on at present !
So, I said 'never again' when I finished. Well, I may consider another go - it's only really my behind, knees and hands that hurt afterwards. The load on my legs and 'engine' wasn't a problem at all - almost negligible strangely enough. Having seen the results and that the time I lost changing saddles towards the end was the difference between finishing in the top 10 or not, it does give me a goal for next time - I didn't think top 10 was anywhere near possible a week ago.
Anyway, well done to all riders - great stuff

31 laps for the youngsters, they didnt put my last lap in. Who knows what position that would have took us up to.

That's a bit odd - I wonder how they manage to miss laps out.
Another solo rider I met had counted 1 more lap than he was given, and I counted 2 more for my tally. I can't see how the system misses anything, although I didn't make sure it bleeped every time I went through the checkpoint, so who knows ?
So, are you eager to do this again ?!

Mike trying to fit a huge bed in a tiny tent got the biggest laugh of the weekend...and there were a lot of laughs. You were legendary getting out of bed to take someone else's turn.
Someone definitely needs to do a write up for the next journal [journal@manchesterwheelers.co.uk].
