We're planning a women's team time trial practice session on 17th June - details to be confirmed nearer the time but will probably ride out from The Gateway at 6.30pm ish. We can practice riding round the circuit in different groups of 2/3/4 which will be good training and also get people used to riding with each other.
The entry for the Warrington 4up on 21/6 needs to go in this week - so far Ruth, Cath, Pip & Rach are in, just waiting for Becks and Anita to confirm. The Wheelers 3up is not till August so we have more time to get organised for that one and hopefully we can enter a couple of womens teams.
Its on the rides list here: http://www.manchesterwheelers.co.uk/rides/291/detail.htm
And before anyone complains it is sexist, we want to enter women's teams into some event so unless you qualify, organise your own ride

Hello,
Had a great ride today, my first "club run type" experience . Thanks to all involved, particularly Martin and Jerry for the tips and encouragement. Viv and Ruth - think we were doing quite well considering the initial weather... how did I manage to acquire more facial mud than you two when it was me that didn't have mud guards ? Also, I will try and familiarise myself with club riding/racing etiquette rather than shouting "ambulance, jogger and poo" for such hazards!
Will be great to get a few girls teams together for upcoming events, any I can make i'll have a go at . Unfortunately i'm oncall 17th June otherwise would love to come out for more practise...will see whether I can swap it.
Looking forward to many more club rides/races. Cath edited by Cath on 06/06/2010

Hey Viv! I think the womens rides are a great idea. Where is the gateway? I know its in South manchester somewhere! I live in North Manchester so just an idea... is there anywhere more central we could meet or nearer as I assume I won't be the only one coming from the other side of manchester. (like I say, just a thought) Also, I cannot attend the one on the 17th as my exhibition opens at university then! Doh!

Hi Jen, Im the same as you living in north manchester and working centrally. The only problem with meeting and riding from city centre on a work night is the traffic. It can be a bit hectic to ride in a group at rush hour. I will have a think again though. There is a circuit north of Manchester at Birch that we could try, its probably a 30 minute ride from town, ill have a think and post up nearer the time.
Anyway, details for the Gateway are on the meeting points page here: http://www.manchesterwheelers.co.uk/rides/meeting-points.htm
Be good to meet you properly soon.

Quick update so you know i havent forgotten about this. Still on and the idea is to practice riding in teams of 2/3/4 depending on who turns up. Ive been scouring maps and went to look round behind the velodrome last night to try and find somewhere more central that is quiet/wide/safe enough to use but no luck. Ive got one more idea to try which is Salford Quays in which case we could meet at the Lowry at 6.30 and we can always go on to Dunham from there if we want to. Ill check if its suitable tonight.
If thats no good, these are our options : http://tinyurl.com/manchester-circuits
- Dunham Massey circuit - Meet in Didsbury to ride out to Cheshire J2/9 circuit - Meet in Didsbury to ride out to industrial estate circuit [trying to find out where that is, we used it last year - anyone remember] - Meet city centre to ride out to Birch circuit
If anyone has any other ideas or a preference let me know. Dunham seems the best bet but i know a couple of people asked for something closer to town. Unfortunately with so many people still driving to work its pretty hard to do a group ride locally thats safe. Ill see what i can do. edited by viv on 16/06/2010

Jerry has found one more option at salford quays / trafford that might work.
I added it to the previous map or check http://tinyurl.com/manchester-circuits-trafford
We could meet there, try that and if we want something longer head to Dunham later once the rush hour traffic has cleared. What do you think?

Jerry reckons there wont be much around, do you think its a bad idea?
I was going to say 6.30 at the lowry. We can try the circuit and if its no good head to Dunham.
Otherwise happy to stick to 7 at Dunham if everyone thats coming is ok getting there but some thought it was too far out.

much in the way of traffic? Its usually not too bad at that time, still have to stop at the red lights though!

I use this one, no lights but you bounce over some tramlines which might not be ideal for TTT training!

hello helllo
i know the loop and agree with Ant that there are numerous lights and roundabouts.......the sticking together and peeling off could be tricky as the few cars along there tend to drive like ejits!!! I will if everyone else will give it a go, however Dunham might be best.......make a decision and I will go with it!
rach!

I'm happy to do either - the Dunham circuit is quite nice and scenic & quiet, but will keep checking this tomo to confirm where we're heading.

Hi all, any developments on this? Got me bike in the car but don't finish work till half 5 then drivin from Liverpool - so would try and make it if you do Dunham - doubt I'd get to Salford Quays for half 6. But no worries if you decide to do Salf Quays - got me trainers in the car too so I can go for a run instead

Meet 6.30pm in front of the Lowry theatre in Salford Quays. If it doesnt work out there we can head to Dunham Massey together. I don't want to change where we are meeting now.
I'm trying to please everyone and pleasing no-one it seems! Can someone else organise the next one please and i can just turn up and enjoy the ride.
Anna head to Dunham if you can't get to SQ, Rachel is going there instead to do the chain gang. We might well see you there for the second lap. edited by viv on 17/06/2010

Sorry Viv, didn't realise Salford Quays had been decided on. No worries. Don't worry about pleasing everyone - it's an impossibility! You always do a sterling job at organising stuff - you deserve a medal my dear. Too much choice in society these days - best to keep things simple, offer one choice only and stick to it. Simplicity is the future!

Rachel and Pip are going to Dunham so its cool, you meet them there. I better go to SQ in case anyone turns up there. Might see you there or might just go home and sulk...its been that kind of week.

How long does it take women to change a light bulb? Not as long as it takes them to organise a women's TTT practice
If you all stopped multi-tasking and just made a decision you'd all have it sorted by now
