See below a request for research volunteers (males only) and a chance to get your VO2 measured.

Dear All

As part of my Masters degree (MSc Biomedical Science by Research), I am conducting a research project investigating the influence of dipsogenic (thirst stimulating) genes on fluid balance and exercise performance.

I am seeking healthy Caucasian male volunteers aged 18-40 (non-smoking, not taking medication and not supplementing with creatine) to participate in this study.

Participation will include the performance of moderate intensity exercise followed by an exercise performance time-trial, in a warm environment. Three genes and various parameters relating to fluid balance will be measured, including; urine osmolality, sweat loss and electrolyte concentration, and blood serum angiotensin converting enzyme concentration.

Participation will require a total of 3 visits to the laboratory for a preliminary trial, a familiarisation trial and 1 main trial. The preliminary trial will require approximately 45 minutes of your time and all other visits approximately 2 to 2 and a half hours each of your time.

As a participant of this study, you will be able to receive your own individual data, including feedback on your aerobic fitness (VO2max) and sweat rate.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to help participate in this study.

Kind regards
