After Martin mentioning it last Thu night i've went for a scout round Trafford Park tonight to see if there was a potential circuit route. I hope the link works but this is what i came up with;
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Trafford-Park-Circuit
It's just over a mile, all left hand junctions but annoyingly two sets of lights but they are close together and left handers so they shouldn't slow things up(!) I've never done the Cheadle circuit so don't know how it compares. The roads were quiet tonight, wide, a couple of avoidable small potholes and well lit.
If people are interested i'm up for organising a ride on either a Tue or Thu evening, say 7pm for an hour/hour & half until the clocks go forward. It will be the same idea as the Saturday chaingangs but if anyone gets dropped they can just take a lap or two out. Might drop some sprints in as well.
Let us know what you think

I have a route round trafford park, no lights but one really tight round-a-bout so not really suitable for more than 5 or 6 people I reckon.

This is the Cheadle circuit that we used last year. Pretty cool as it's on a business park and tends to be fairly quite in the evenings.

Rob, Put me down for Tuesdays. Here's another Trafford route which is quiet in the evenings, poss a bit long for group needs but can be trimmed to avoid lights. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/384468
That one Ant posted is a good'un too. Theres no-one around Guinness Road end in the evenings. As he points out, the roundabouts are tight, so slow in the wet. Here's a variation of that that I used to do in 2008 http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/386622
Tuesdays for speed, yah, P.

Trafford Park is great idea, go home through there to extend my commute on occasions and always thought there must be potential for a chaingang type circuit. Problem is the traffic lights though as all the main roads have loads of sets. There's some small small circuits you could work out without like Ant suggested, remember the traffic will be flying round some of the roundabouts too though!
Watch the tram lines as well, especially in the wet. Some potentially nasty ones just before Tenax Circle you hit at an angle.

OOhhh! So much choice! Chaingangs, Mini chaingangs, Wedensday Knights, Spinning, Steves Gym sessions. Hmmm, can't decide!
I like the idea of the Cheadle circuit, & NickWs sample workouts so how about we do those for a couple of weeks so us newbies can get into it, then replicate them on the slightly longer 3mile TPark route I posted? (Tuesdays would suit me for these). I would still like to keep the Wed runs goin until the Westmead TTs start in a few months, then I'll be doing those on me aerobars. For Thursdays I like the sound of the core sessions at the rowing club, but I do enjoy the spinning at Platt Lane Dome. May have to toss a coin to decide which to go for, although my sensible side tells me do the core sessions & get rid of the belly!
What do we think?

Think I'll pass playing Hunters on a 3mile loop.....

Yeah, you're right, the 'hunters' thing would be unfeesable on a longer lap, I didn't choose the right words before, perhaps 'adapt for TP' rather than 'replicate on TP' would have been more accurate. Initially I had been thinking of a longer loop as that might be closer to what you'd find on a RR circuit. Thinking about it now, the shorter lap seems more practical. I'm with you on mixing up your training to address different aspects and personal weaknesses of racing being no bad thing. I'm just a bit clueless of what's required at the moment. My TT experience over the last couple of years has been pretty simplistic - just go fast till you get tired, then just keep going through the pain. I need to get a bit smarter for bunch riding though. Hopefully I'll pick it up over the next few months, as well as work out some proper attainable goals.
I was also hoping that we could all do the midweek sessions together, my thinking being that would be better than all of us being fragmented into small groups of ever decreasing numbers. However, I realise that might not be possible due to everyones commitments & training plans.

And I think Ant will probably also agree an hour of circuits of trying to follow Martin's and Mick's wheels gives the legs a more than sufficient battering for a mid-week session, so you don't need to be out all night edited by NickW on 05/02/2010
Yep, it's not dissimilar to riding at the track (only quicker, and with fewer idiots*). Work hard, recover, work hard, recover.
It's lit now, so - dampness/ice aside - it's perfectly possible to do something up there now. Beats the turbo, too.
*for rothers' benefit. Not that he's riding there again. Ever..!

Can't wait! When are we starting? Meet at Gateway & roll over to Cheadle, or meet there at one of the roundabouts?
P.
PS: Tom, what did Rothers do at the track?

I'll be up for Tuesday nights soon enough.
As Nick says, best to choose a time to meet at the Gateway, and a time to meet at the circuit. People can arrive at whichever as they wish.
Nick's suggestions of track style disciplines are good and work well there. And he's right about keeping the recovery pace down. Enough people have speedos that we should be able to sit at no more than 14 to allow the rider(s) off the front to have a good workout.

Nice one Rob.
See you there tomorrow night (assuming it's not minus 6, as my father in law keeps "predicting"...!).
