Ive just heard Mick did it again and retained his veterans title!!!! Theres no final standings on the nwcca website yet but it was from a reliable source so sure it will be verified soon.

It was more closely faught this time with Mick missing a race in the snow and someone else inching ahead but he did it in the end. Great result!

Same from me Mick - I only rode one event with you last year, but it was an a honour !! And thanks for the advice on cross-bike sizing, it was spot on !

For those of you who doubted the performance of a doughty diesel engine over a flashy petrol

Went right down to the nail too according to Mick..."Had to pull out a ride...yesterday's race was the closest Dave and I have had - he led, I passed him second lap and gapped him, he clawed back and we were riding side by side, he edges ahead on a slippery bank, I run past him on mud, I drop the bike on a corner, Dave gaps me, he took a bad line on an off camber muddy bit, and I squeeze out and grow a winning gap."

Brilliant, well done Mick. Having seen you fly past me in a few races, "doughty diesel" would not be a description that springs to mind for you (though appropriate for my plodding style of cross riding). Your result is all the more impressive because you did it on a single bike unlike most of the other top guys with pit crews and clean bikes every lap or so.

Thanks everybody!

It has been a great season with loads of Wheelers having a ride in all sorts of conditions...the lightning quick course at Wavertree in October to the mud of Windermere and Haslingden. I've loved the great spirit amongst us all at the end of the races, knackered, often filthy but happy and chatting about a personal battle here, a tricky off-camber bit there, a two wheel slide, clearing mud from the bike etc. Looks like a few of us might do a little mountain bike racing before next season to feed the habit.

Special mention to new Wheeler, Scott, who came 12 overall in the League, 6th senior, nice one. Now, can we challenge Horwich for the team prize I wonder....

Phew. Need a rest...that's me off skiing on Sunday then.
