I can make 6pm, but the traffic is still heavy until around 7pm, also 7pm start gives people more time to get home from work & have some dinner beforehand.
I was aiming at being back home for around 9pm, approx 2hrs riding, so start at 7.

What do we think? Post up if you wanna join in...

How much lighting reasonably needed? The battery on my decent light is on its way out, so not sure I'll have enough light to see by if it isn't streetlit.

legal lights in 'steady' mode. (for the traffic to see us - steadymode so you don't disorientate the other riders in the group).

The only bit that's proper dark are the lanes out the back of Wilmslow & up round Artists lane. We found before Xmas that we had enough light between us to see where we're goin so you won't need a massive spotlamp or anything bling. I've got 2xCateye EL350's & Will's got a Tesco torch. You'll be fine, Tom. Dark riding = excitement!!

Ian - I'm still keen on 7pm start for reasons explained above. Anyone else? 6? 7? lets have a poll.

True even at 7 traffic is not good, just thought maybe earlier and we'd get more people.

This is the light I use, It's still bright enough but I have fears the LED is dimming for some reason :\

Is the light from Tesco made with aircraft grade aluminium?

Aye, not really quiet til later, but then we'd be gettin back at 10pm or later. I was thinkin people would want to go home after work first to get changed, so 7 might suit. If meetin at 6 then maybe people could join us straight after work. Might be a faff though, training run with yer soot in a bag on yer back an' all. C'mon folks. 6 or 7 - which do you want?

I'm happy with either time. Don't forget to put the ride on the rides page.

Shame about BikeHike, won't be able to view routes or share them in the near future on there , what a great resources, destroyed by stupid legal problems.

does yours fly then?

Don't worry mate, just winding you up! Last year Tesco sold a torch similar in looks & operation to the Fenix one, complete with a cree LED setup. It got rave reviews (cos cree are good) & cost something like £3.00. Most cyclists poo-poohed it because it was unbranded, not bling and unavailable at Royles. But it was a really good light. The term 'Tesco Torch' is used to describe any barrel type internal battery driven LED light, its not an insult & your one is good too. As we'll see on Wed at 7.

On a more serious note, could the dimming you speak of be down to the batteries you're using? I use rechargeables in mine & the light output is less (even on a full charge) than you'd get from disposables.

Que one of our physics bods to explain the degradation of LED components.....

Closure of Bikehike Route Database

I have received legal advice that, in spite of any disclaimer on this site, there is no guarantee against possible litigation as a result of having routes assessible via this website.

As a private individual I am not prepared to expose myself to this risk (however small) and therefore have reluctantly taken the decision to close the bikehike route database.

Note - the site itself will not close - just the route database.

For a start the facility to save routes to the database has been closed. In the near future I will also close the facility to search for routes in the database. In the meantime I suggest all users download their routes to their PCs.

I apologise for the inconvenience caused. I hope you can appreciate the reasons.

I'll add it to the rides list soon.

Viv, I can't seem to login to the w'site to add rides, only the forum. Can you help, please?

What kind of rides do these tend to be? How far/flat/hilly etc?

I could only make 7pm, not 6.
