Evenin' all,

As I'm growing fatter than Mr Creosote on a daily basis, I need to take my weight-loss efforts to the next stage. I'm currently 12st 5lb, which is scary especially as (a) a year ago I weighed a feathery 11st 3lb and (b) I have a hard target for the Etape du Dales on 16 May (= very hilly 114mile sportive).

So I want to get down to 11st 0lb by 16 May. And having tried and failed using that thing you humans call "willpower" over recent weeks, I have to go to the next level, which is public humiliation. The question is: are you willing to join in? Aha... thought so.

So I'm planning - with the Admin's permission of course - to post my weight every Monday on this thread. You, dear Reader, don't have to do anything, but feel free to hurl insults or blow kisses at me at any time. This requires me to be blood-curdlingly honest. I'm confident I can do it - a few years ago I lost 4 stone in 5 months.

So watch this space. And I urge anyone else who wants to do likewise then please feel free to add to this thread.

Andy

You're a supportive lot aren't you, hehe. Thats an extreme method Andy - very brave. So whats the plan. What are you planning to lose and how?

How about we start a bit of a wager, all put a pound in and play guess the weight of the rubio on a weekly basis?

How about a few ground rules for this type of "event".

1 Weight publishing allowed.

2 Photos not.

Sounds essential if there's guttage

Andy - 4 stone in 5 months... you must have been reeeeaaallllllyyyyy fat then. I wouldn't advocate extreme dieting, what you gain by losing weight you could lose by the physiological effects of too low calorie intake. Follow the Wiggins approach, slowly slowly catchy monkey and all that for losing weight without losing (much) power

Jay's advice sounds good, ride that bike fatboy and just leave the high calorie cr*p food alone

Glad I have the excuse of being 5" taller than you, because you're not much heavier....
... anyway I'm off for my friday bacon and sausage barm with a fried egg on

EDIT: I went for the 7 items for £1.99 full English

Hi Andy, I'm in need of a bit of a push to get me to slim down from 79kgs to arount the 70kg mark, sounds much like yourself. I've got a buddha belly & it needs to go. I don't think its genictally possible for me to ever be built like Jerry, but a stone lighter than now before the TT season is possible. I'll join you.
I agree with Martin - post weights & poss measurments, but no photos of the midrift as people sometimes read this forum at mealtimes.
How will you be shiftin the excess? I'm going to stick to calorie counting for now as I don't fancy the Slimfast type product approach, bit unsure of 'special' diets. Oh and sit ups, as opposed to the 'sit downs' I'm currently an expert at.
Cheers, P.

I've dropped over a stone since the end of last season

How?

Changed diet, no alcohol since Nov Plenty of cardio in the 'Fat Burning Zone' ( 60%/70% MHR ), pilates ( stop laughing at the back ) and twice a week core gym work...

I'm far from an expert so I'm not about to start telling anyone how to lose weight and detailing my diet/routine etc but all the above has certainly helped/worked for me...

Good luck.......

Oh and Nick makes a valid point, you don't want to start losing weight rapidly at the expense of losing power/muscle

I've got to lose 19 pounds in 17 weeks, it'll be easier at the beginning for sure. The how is...

This is my basic strategy. Fresh fruit rather than freshly-baked buttery croissants slathered in the sweetest jams ..... ahem sorry about that.

I have too much respect for my fellow Wheelers, no pictures - honest. But be warned: I own a skinsuit.

I dropped weight last year in much the same way Si (save I never got round to the intended core work outs). My basic observations are:

- I seem to find commuting the 13 miles to work before having breakfast helps with weight loss
- I also find porridge instead of sugary / simpler carb cereals means I get a lot closer towards lunchtime before I feel hungy.
- I tend to weigh and limit the carbs element in my evening meal as I have no self control once its on the plate (must be down to having to sit at the table until I cleared my plate as a kid).
- Ryvitas in the desk drawer are my reserve if I get hungry late afternoon and I'm riding in the evening; carbs, filling and 30ish cals per slice (and you've usually had enough by 3 max)
- Cut out booze and fatty/high sugar junk food (the main thing)

I admit I really did have the friday fry-up today but I've been good all week so hey ho (I'll still drop around a pound this week)

Didnt find it too hard tbh, the less radical the changes are the easier I find it to stick to, for that reason I don't accurately calorie count (for me it would feel a bit too oppressive)

My target is about 11st7 for racing season, currently at 12st1

Definitely agree with the no alcohol, you put weight on in no time if you're on the beers.

You might have a gander at the weightwatcher style diets - more of a lifestyle alteration program than a diet and it can be altered to take into account exercise - my mum lost about 3 stone on that in under a year.

good luck with it

Ed

PS. my mum is always telling me I look like a skeleton (5' 10" 62 kg) so you can't win either way!

I did my 4 stone weight loss by going to Weight Watchers. I liked its measurability and the fact that my weight was a matter of public record.
