Just been flicking through the Wheelers pics from this year whilst trying to find something and wow, what a year: http://www.flickr.com/groups/manchester-wheelers/pool/
So what are your best and worst Wheelers or cycling related memories of 2009?
My worst was probably that wet, windy 50 which i needed for the BAR but didn't enjoy one bit. Oh and failing to finish the Warrington 4 up with the minimum of 3 riders. Think my best has to be the Duo Normand which was a great weekend yet again and a real buzz. Also the float day on the A25/11 was rather a good one. Happy memories from our week in Tuscany too.
All in all, good memories and great to meet so many new, keen and lovely people to ride with. Looking forward to next year. edited by viv on 23/12/2009

The best..... The Duo Normand without a doubt: sunshine, closed roads, great support, great company and great results. Couldn't ask for more! Every time triallist should aim to do it at least once!
The worst.... probably feeling as cold as I've ever felt after a long descent in the sleet on our 'warm weather' training week in Tuscany (the rest of the holiday was amazing though). Yellow broom corner on any number of occasions comes a close second!

Ohhh sooo many good cycling memories from this year...
The general banter most weekends at various HQ's around Cheshire Getting my track accreditation Finally going under the hour Managing to PB in 10,25,50 and 100mile TT Completing a 100mile TT Top 10 finish in the Cheshire Points Managing to complete all the above whilst juggling a family/new born, thanks to a very understanding better half!
Worse Moments
Completing a 100mile TT ( well ok the last 30miles ) Bonking badly in a few end of season races when I should have gone well The weather, seemed to have far to many races in torrential rain!
Roll on 2010

The highlight was definately completing the Etape and conquoring the Ventoux, closely followed by two Tuscany holidays and 700 miles of fantastic riding/ training around the Tuscan hills
The lowlight catching a cold on the Tour of the Peak, closely followed by a chest infection laying me low fo a few weeks.

Being a glass-is-at-least-half-empty type, my highlights include (together with lowlights, natch):
Hit the North 1.5 in January (hampered by chest infection) Tour of Flanders with Nick (the ditch) Étape (vomiting on the Ventoux) Lake Como in May (sunburn) Watching the Tour at the foot of the Ventoux (more sunburn) Trying some cross (not doing enough) Track accreditation (but not starting SQTs until later in the year)
Next year's plans include: full edition of FLanders in April, starting RRing, some open TTs, riding my MTB more, coast to coast with Ed and his brother. Not buying any more bl**dy bikes..!

Best - discovering cyclocross and meeting some lovely people in the process. Worst - being out of action during almost the whole of the March - September period with a virus.

The Coast to Coast (the proper - as close to Wainwright's as you can get it on a mtb one from St Bees to Robin Hood bay one as opposed to the C2C) is a cracking trip
Sounds like a proper hairy a***d man's ride/scramble. Like it.

Well, my best is pretty easy - winning the club handicap but just as pleasing was realising how hard you can actually push yourself when you need/have to! I never dreamed that I could get under 25 mins on our 10 course in my first season!
Not really a worst but I regret not doing any longer TT's and i'll hopefully put that right next year. Would like to try a few RR next season too, time permitting.

There has been so much this year its difficult to know where to start.
At the top though has to be winning the Duo Normand Vets award with Martin and being on the podium with Katoucha. Just below; Our open 25 was an amazing atmosphere, so many wheelers! Setting new PB's for 25 and 50 after 10yrs of trying. The contest with Scott for the fastest 10 of the year. The Christmas Lunch The way the club has gone from strength to strength this year
Low points The tragic loss of Rob. The first 50 of the year riding 25 miles into a gale and then 25 miles back into freezing rain. Getting caught in the last 2 miles of a road race having been away with 2 others from the first 5 minutes.
Have a great Christmas all, hope Santa brings you all the bike bits you want and you get to achieve all your cycling goals next season.

Yes, I would like to echo Jerry's point about how very gratifying it has been to see the club's profile increase this year. Again. I also want to follow his lead in wishing all the worldwide brotherhood (and sisterhood) of Wheelers' a very merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. DRAT. I did so want to be the first to do this. but I suppose as our new President (and I am only Vice President) he can pull rank. It's now nearly 7 o'clock on Christmas Eve, will there be anyone sad enough to read this on the night ??? Cheers everyone.

High point of the season for me was definitely the Duo, I can't think of any real low points, a few rubbish rides in there but so what.
Hope everyone has a great Christmas.

A good year had by most by the looks of it. As I'm still fairly new in the club, I don't really have any high points regarding races etc, but the atmosphere on the club runs & chain gangs has been positive and rewarding leaving me looking forward to more rides. The low point may come after christmas, when I get back on the bike & realise that single-handedly saving Guinness from recession was maybe not the best idea.
Merry Xmas all, Happy new year & see you in Jan. Cheers, P.

Its been an absolutly amazing year for me, Definatly high points being my 10, 25 and 50 pb's and also my pb's rides on cheshire.
I think the best thing about 2009 is seing so many new faces in the wheelers and seeing all but 1 trophy being handed out at the dinner. The amount of people on clubruns and saturday chaingangs makes it so much easier for everyone and makes it feel like a social event rather than a training session, which is what winter is all about. This just shows that the club is still strong and will be for a very long time. I think if all goes to plan for everyone over the next few months, the wheelers could be a strong club to be reckoned with in TT's, Road races and more and more in cycle cross. Might even have a bash myself.....
Going back to high points, i've got to mention the brat..... On the 2 occasions I did personal bests at 10 and 25 miles Alex did something unbelievable.
His 19:56 '10' he did when I did my 20:31 was unreal, the fact we nearly turned round whilst riding to the start because it was 'Too windy' still makes us laugh now.
And When he caught me with a mile to go in the 25 was inspirational, we battled to cross the line first and he eventually got it but I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw my time of 53:24, let alone the fact alex caught me for 3 minutes!!!! He didnt believe me when I told him I thought he'd broke comp record...Again!!!
Such good memories from an amazing year!
Good luck to everyone for 2010, I hope everyone achieves their goals!
