Hello

I organise monthly women's bike rides in Manchester that are usually around 20-30 miles at a pretty leisurely pace, some of the women have shown interest in going a bit faster and a bit farther and after joining some wheeler ladies for a ride in the SUmmer I thought it would be great to join forces... For a while now Viv, Becks and I have been talking about doing monthly women's rides. Due to other commitments and bad luck or illness we've not managed to do it yet. but they shall be starting soon....!

To start off they are gonna be pretty mild rides, probably 40-55 miles or so and the first couple are gonna be pretty flat too, bulding up to hillier terrain and more miles and quicker pace.

So, from January we shall be having monthly rides on the LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH. Leaving at 11am. This should give us plenty of time to nurse hangovers and also to have enough daylight left for a few hours in the saddle.

The first ride will be a gentlye spin to meet everyone and to find out where everyone is at and what people want to do and also what they want to aim for so we know how to build the rides up. Due to this after the ride we'll stop off in a pub to chat about all this stuff, so please factor some time into your day to join in with this- even if it's just half an hour.

During this ride we shall also hope to share bits of information that shall help newbies to road riding in groups and to cycle training. These include: How to ride in a group (including riding on someone's wheel, chaingangs etc); Nutrition before during and after a ride; Training- hints on timetables and routes etc; What to wear- clothing, component and bike tips.

Sunday 31st January 11am Unicorn Carpark, Chorlton: Cheshire Ride: 40 miles: moslty flat.

Future specific ride routes shall be decided and posted after this one when we have an idea of what people want to do.

Please post if you think you would lke to attend and with any further ideas of hints and tips the first ride could include.

Just an update on this ride..... Nes and I will be keeping an eye on the weather and will post nearer the time whether it's going ahead. It looks like there's a thaw on the way though so fingers crossed.

A few guys have said that their better halves have been thinking about getting out on a bike - this would be a great intro in a relaxed group finishing in a pub! Get in touch if you want any more info!

also just to bear in mind this ride will be a slower one, mostly so people aren't too scared to come after the enforced long break from cycling due to the snow. so if you're feeling a bit unfit don't worry, still come along this one will be pretty chilled. we're all in a similar boat (i haven't ridden properly for 2 months now due to snow and a broken ankle)...then, once our fitness is back up we can whizz around like mad...

Just in case anyone checks the forum this morning....

Unfortunately we've had to cancel today's ride due to the snow. There's only a dusting in Manchester but apparently much more out South and West which rules out a nice ride in the lanes.

Nes and I will still be meeting in at Unicorn in Chorlton at 11 o'clock and will be heading to a cafe to plot future routes and talk about cycling. If anyone fancies coming along we can run through the basic principles of group riding and for those interested, how to get into club riding and racing.

All welcome!

Hehe, that may be the best picture i have ever seen!

What a shame about the snow in Cheshire, north of Manchester was completely snow free and a beautiful sunny day to boot. Ho hum, better luck next time ladies.
