Morning all,
I am off to Pollensa, Mallorca next week and would be interested to know if anyone has experience of riding in the area or can offer any tips.
I am leaning toward hiring a bike out there as there appear to be some good options available ( http://www.procyclehire.com ) and it would probably be preferable to taking the baggage handling gamble with my bike.
Also any pointers on routes, where local rides meet and/or any recommendations for food, etc.
Any info much appreciated
James

Yes, loads! We did a wheelers trip there in 2008 and Jerry has been far too many times. There is also a google map he did with lots of great routes: http://tinyurl.com/majorca-routes
Dont worry about food etc in Pollensa, there are loads of good places to choose from. Im not sure about bike hire or groups as we did our own thing. edited by viv on 20/10/2009

Procycle is the cheapest place to hire but I've been a few times over the last couple of years and never had any problems with my bike in a bike bag - the one time I tried to hire I couldn't get the right size as the hire shops are so busy. The Procycle shop sells a great map which sets out the bike routes which we found really easy to use (when we didn't have Jerry / Mick & co to follow!). Steve and I were there a few weeks ago and there was a daily ride setting off at 9 from Tollos restaurant on the beachfront which is supposed to be a fairly steady pace / mixed group of riders but can't vouch for that as we did our own thing - Jerry might be able to let you know more!
Enjoy!

What she said! ^^^^^^^
If you can take your own bike, take it - just make sure you have standard spokes that can easilly be replaced should anything go wrong if you have factory wheels - or take spare spokes. A few people really get on with Bruce's bikes, others do not - its a personal thing. If you want to take energy drinks, gels etc - buy them in the uk and take them over in unpoened containers - the prices over there are silly. Tolo's is a good bet, but there may also be rides going out from Pollensa Park hotel - depending on who is out there. - Route wise - be careful with the weather at this time of year - it can change so quickly so make sure you have arm / leg warmers etc and a decent waterproof - and leave contact details somewher in case of emergencies.

Thanks all, much appreciated.
As it's just a week and I've had bad expereinces before with baggage I think I'll go with the hire option

Hi,
I'm going to Mallorca in Aprill from the 10th to the 24th - I stay at the Ayron Park Hotel see:
http://www.majorca68.co.uk/ and http://www.hotelayronpark.com/
It's a good hotel and easy to use as a cycle base - it's somehwat away from the North of the Island - However I do usually manage to get over to the hills a good few times - although they tend to be long rides. Arenal is just south of Palma and makes a great base to cycle from.
It's really a good place to stay and Doug organises a pick up and return from the airport charges a nominal fee and acts as a backup if you have problems out on the road. I tend to just go on my own and meet up with riders that I have previous ridden with or make new friends. This year I'm going to the States to ride a sportive with an Ameican friend I met there!
....Kevin
