Just a bit of info for any girls out there that want to ride but think the club runs might be too hardcore (they're not, but this is another option).
Every 2nd Wednesday of the month the cycling 'ladies' of MCR meet at 6:30pm outside the Pankhurst Centre. They ride mostly off road routes for about an hour and the ride is lead by a qualified cycling instructor who can give advice on assertive/ confident cycling during the ride.

I've not been myself but they're a nice bunch so should be a nice gentle intro to riding.
