Ibikemcr are organising some ace new womens social rides...

Wednesday 8th April and monthly on 2nd Wednesday of the month.

Meet at 6:30pm outside the Pankhurst Centre. We shall ride, mostly off road routes for about an hour. The ride will be lead by a qualified cycling instructor who can give advice on assertive/ confident cycling during the ride.

After the ride we shall go to The Deaf Institute where we can celebrate the first of the new monthly women's rides with well ace female DJ's playing ace music all night!!!! Boys and non cyclists welcome to the afterparty.

I don't know, it all sounds a bit sexist and right on to me! Can you imagine the pullaver if there was a boys only social bike ride followed by music from the best male DJ's...

but there must be a joke in there somewhere though with the best female DJ's playing at the Deaf Institute?

You never know lads there might be a bit of bra burning by the suffrage movement. Shall we offer our "support"?

Can we rename you Stu the smut? It makes me feel a little queasy.

I think what Nes has done is brilliant - getting lots of people that wouldnt take up cycling as a sport into riding their bikes. Anything to encourage more girls to cycle gets my vote.

Come on Viv don't be so precious. It's just a bit of light hearted fun. Take it in the spirit it was intended. If you think Im "smutty" then you've had a sheltered life! :-)

I have to admit I agree with both of you. I know Nes vaguely from my hip-hop slave bike riding sisters jeans wearing days and she has done alot to get many more people to ride. However, branding a ride women only is extremely sexist and does nothing to encourage a better attitude from men towards riding females.

Simply stating that you are going on an intro ride and the least confident/strong members of the ride will decide where to go and there will be advice on offer from a trained advisor would be IMHO be better for everyone

So you didnt like that one Stu?

How about 'stu the perv', 'stu the master of innuendo', although that one's a bit of a mouthful...oh no, here we go again...

Oh come on now, don't be silly, there are more than enough rides for everyone to go round. In fact, i'm thinking of organising a couple of womens rides over the summer to try and redress the balance within the club a bit. If you feel strongly enough about it you're welcome to come along though...or even help organise it.

ohhh handbags at the ready - my comments were intended as a joke btw, I've no problem with women only rides anything that encourages people to ride their bikes has to be a good thing imho

Don't worry Stu, a little innuendo now and again always makes me laugh, just not the done thing these days I'm afraid - being brought up on a comedy diet of Kenny Everett, Benny Hill et al we are obviously showing our age

Some, if not all of my favourite rides have been with women. However I think inclusion is better than exclusion if you want to promote harmony within cycling. Its all done in the best possible taste I might add.

Oh Stu!, only some..... I think you're telling me more than I need to know, did you have an experimental phase in earlier life?

or, was no innuendo intended?
